Often, when we speak in terms of the success of an individual or an institution, we suggest that it was achieved in spite of the obstacles and challenges that were experienced. I believe that whenever we talk about accomplishing anything that we should say “by the grace of God” or “with God’s blessing.” This takes the focus off of the bad in our lives and shines light on what is good.
By the grace of God, we have had a tremendous fall here at Mt. Zion, serving and being a blessing to God’s people. We have honored God with our worship and service and lifted up the name of Jesus so that others might be drawn to His redeeming love. As winter begins, and the joy of the season of preparation fills our hearts, let us take the time to thank God for the greatest gift ever given to humankind…the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ, our Lord. There is nothing that we can do to repay or return the gift, but we can spend our lives thanking God for this amazing offering, given for us all.
It is appropriate at this time of year to reflect on the “why” of Christmas. Why would God make so great a sacrifice for us? Why did God think so much of us to send God’s Son? Why does God continue to send Him still…into the hearts of new believers every day? The answer is simple…because God loves us. When we reflect on this love, it is the greatest and most powerful emotion that has ever been felt or expressed in the universe. It is an unfathomable love that is far beyond our comprehension or finite understanding. God’s love for all creation is just that great!
So, in this sacred season, how can we appropriately celebrate and share that love? It is by loving others as God has loved us…fully and unconditionally…that we share that unspeakable love. We have a new opportunity in this season, to love God and to love one another as never before. This year, let’s outdo one another in showing love, especially to those who otherwise might not experience it. And remember, do it because of God’s grace. I assure you the blessing will be yours.
Because of Christ,
Rev. Paul
